A party was held to honor the graduating class of the Marian Louise Withey School of Nursing on Wednesday, January 4, 1939.

Mrs. George C. Thomson, Mrs. Hollis S. Baker and Mrs. Thomas C. Wanty will pour the tea at the party given by Mrs. Edward H. Idema. Mrs. Dudley E. Waters and Emma Kelting, supervisor of nurses, along with Mrs. Idema will receive.

Members of the five hospital boards will be guests: Mrs. William Guy DeBoer, president of the Mary Welch guild; Mrs. Cornelius Steketee, president of the Junior guild; Mrs. Ralph L. Pitts, president of the Florence Hills Waters guild, and Baroness Jean DeKorsak, president of the Bread board, will assist. Also members of the senior woman’s board will be present.

The graduating class members are:

Lillian Borst, Cornelia J. DenBoer, Ruth DePree, Mary Ann Hackenbruck, Catherine Harrison, Barbara Heetderks, Carolyn Johnson, Catherine Marple, Margaret E. McVean, Irene Pals, president of the class; Irene C. Schaub, Marguerite Stuart, Vesta Slabbekorn, Ruth Tully and Vivian Wood.

Other festivities for the graduating class will be a mother and daughter tea on Tuesday in the Nurses Lodge and a breakfast in the hospital on Thursday morning.

Graduation will be held on Thursday evening at East Congregational Church with Rev. Charles W. Helsley giving the invocation and benediction. Harpists from Lansing Mrs. Grace Lausterfield and Eleanor Graffcarr will play. The class will enter with the nursing staff. Dr. Milton M. McGorrill will give the address and John W. Blodgett will present the diplomas. Mrs. Mema, chairman of the nurses training school committee, will present the scholarships. Mrs. Waters was chairman for 28 years. A reception in the church parlors will follow. Hazel Henry, Harriet Jansma, Frances Graf and Ruth Monaweck will pour.
