NINTH MICHIGAN INFANTRY
The Ninth Michigan Infantry was organized at Fort Wayne near Detroit. It was mustered into service of the United States, October 15, 1861, with a force of 913 officers and men on its rolls and left for Louisville, Kentucky on October 25th being the first regiment from Michigan to enter upon active service in the western departments of the army, being attached to Negley’s division. From June, 1862, at Chattanooga to its closing engagement, it acted its part well and was discharged at Jackson, September 27, 1865. |
