During the past month, Death’s untimely hand again took from the Club one of its most loyal and active members. Henry J. Bennett, for five years president of the Club and for many years one of the most active and tireless workers for Club progress, succumbed in Blodgett hospital to an illness of four days’ duration.
Mr. Bennett, a native of Grand Rapids, was president of the Peninsular Club from 1921 to 1926. He had been a member of the vestry of Grace church for more than 25 years and had been a associated with the church for 50 years.
For 37 years, Mr. Bennett had been associated with the Superior Charcoal and Iron Company and the Antrim Co., and had served as secretary and later as assistant treasurer of the latter firm,. At one time he was with the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad and later with the Bissell Carpet Sweeper Co.
But it was as good citizen and congenial Club member that Mr. Bennett will be longest remembered. His presence always brought with it the feeling of camaraderie and good-fellowship. Some of the most successful years in the Club’s history were under his administration as president.
The Peninsular Club will miss Henry Bennett and his friendly greetings to one and all. He will be missed as well at the Rotary and Kent Country Clubs, where he also held membership.
