9/1945 - David H. Brown
Mr. Brown, 73,prominent in the furniture industry for many years,
died Monday,
Aug. 13, at Butterworth hospital 10 days after suffering a stroke of paralysis.
Mr. Brown was treasurer of Century Furniture Co. from 1905 until it
suspended activities about five years ago. With the late William H. Gay, he founded
The Furniture Manufacturers Warehouse Co., in 1920 and was its president until
retirement a year ago due to ill health.
Mr. Brown was an honorary life director of the Furniture Manufacturers Association of
Grand Rapids and a director for several years of the David Wolcott Kendall Memorial
School and the Grand Rapids Furniture Exposition Association.
Mr. Brown joined the Peninsular Club 35 years ago and was a regular patron
of the Club until his death. A native of Reading, Mich., he was associated with the
Michigan Chair Co., at Grand Lodge as a youth and remained with the company,
when it was removed to Grand Rapids He later became an executive of the firm.
Besides the widow, Amy Bertsch Brown he is survived by a niece, Mrs, Kate Whearton
Berry, of Grand Ledge.
