Mrs. J. C. (Nora) Carr Conspicuous As Founder of Extensive Business

Mrs. J. C. Carr, 70 years old, president and founder of the Marietta Stanley company, 650-660 Turner avenue, N. W., and one of the most prominent business women of Grand Rapids, died at her home, 342 Fourth street, N. W., Wednesday, as the result of paralysis.
The funeral will be held from St. James church, Friday, 24 December, at 9:30 a.m.
Mrs. Carr won an enviable reputation as a capable business woman. Becoming dependent in 1838, she began the manufacture on a small scale in her home of the toilet preparation, Sempre Giovine. Some time later she engaged in business in the present location of her factory, and four years ago erected a substantial and well-equipped three-story building. The toilet articles manufactured by her concern have done much toward the advancement of Grand Rapids in the commercial world.
Mrs. Carr had been a resident of Grand Rapids since 1888, when she removed here from Grattan township. She had been afflicted with paralysis since last February.
She had been a member of St. James' Catholic church for years and conspicuous for her works of charity. Actively engaged with her in the conducting of her business are two daughters, Miss Nora N. Husted, vice-president and Miss Bessie J. Husted, secretary of the company. A son, Otto P. Husted, is superintendent of the factory. Dr. John Husted, another son, is a practicing physician in Detroit.
Mrs. Carr is also survived by a brother, Martin Bresnahan, living at Roscommon, Mich., and a sister, Mary Bresnahan, of Coquille, Oregon.
