SOLDIER KILLED IN FRANCE - Private Harry E. Fonger
(Grandville Avenue Record, June 14, 1918 – Pg. 1)
Private Harry E. Fonger, infantry in France, was killed in action June 6th.
Such is the sad news that came to Mr. and Mrs. F. F. Fonger of Madison avenue; he had been in service just a year; he was a graduated from the Hall street school; was a brother to the late Neal Fonger who was killed in an accident in Chicago a year ago, and was buried with military honors from Smith Memorial church; he was a second cousin to Neal Fonger, a sailor, who died in the navy hospital at Norfolk, Va. Last fall. Thus have three Fonger heroes given up their lives for a world’s peace.
Harry was a member of the Sunday School of Smith Memorial church.
