DEATH OF "MIKE" KERWIN
(Grandville Avenue Record, February 15, 1918 – Pg. 4)
The unexpected death of Michael Kerwin at his late home, 1312 Grandville avenue, Monday night, came as a surprise to this community. The immediate cause was an attack of acute congestive chill of the heart.
Mr. Kerwin has been a faithful city employe as market superintendent of seven years and made a good record.
He was born in New York city 64 years ago. When eight years of age he came with his parents to Grand Rapids. He was at one time captain of the fire department. Throughout his life he was identified with city affairs in various capacities, but principally in connection with the wholesale market.
He is survived by his widow, three sons, John E. and Michael, Jr., of Grand Rapids, and Peter of Rochester, NY; four daughters, Mrs. J. J. Reynolds, Alice, Carrie and Rose Kerwin, and two brothers, Luke Kersin, captain of No. 11 engine house, and James Kerwin of Dewey, Oklahoma.
The funeral was held at Holy Name church, Father McGinn officiating.
