Roche--John B. Roche, aged 77, passed away early Sunday morning at his home, 1165 Hermitage-st., S.E. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a life member of BPOE 48. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ida J. Roche, Grand Rapids; a son, Emmett, F.; a grandson, Stewart J., and a grand daughter, Miss Kathleen Roche, all of Hart. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock at St. Thomas church. Interment in Mt. Calvary cemetery. Mr. Roche’s body reposes at the late residence, where members of the Holy Name society and the Knight of Columbus will pray the Rosary Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock. Arrangements by Alt.
"John B. Roche, Owner of Machine Firm, Dies" John B. Roche, 73, of 1165 Hermitage-st., S.E., died Sunday at his home. He was owner of the Roche Electric Machine Co. and early in life had been a teacher of physical culture. Born in Williamsport, Pa.., he was a resident of Grand Rapids for the last 70 years.
Mr. Roche was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a life member of BPOE No. 48.
He is survived by his widow , Ida; a son, Emmet F.; a grandson, Stuart J. Roche, and a granddaughter, Kathleen Roche, the latter of Hart.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Thomas church and burial will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery.

Belanger--Funeral services for Gedeon Belanger, aged 73, of 652 Grandville-av., S.W., will be held Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at the Sullivan Funeral Home and at 9 o’clock at St. Joseph’s church. Interment in Woodlawn cemetery.

Nagelkerk--Gerrit Nagelkerk, aged 62, of 1048 California-st., N.W., passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning. Surviving besides his wife, Mary, are two sons, Edward of Grand Rapids and Walter of Muskegon; two daughters, Mrs. Sidney P. Skinner of Selfridge field, Mich., and Mrs. Donald Lohrberg of Kalamazoo; four grandchildren; three brothers, Ren of Dutton, John of Vriesland and David Nagelkerk of Grand Rapids; four sisters, Mrs. C. Steenstra of Holland, Mrs. John Timmer and Mrs. Al Lanning of Durand and Mrs. Ben Lanning of Zeeland. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Van’t Hof Funeral Home. Burial in Grandville cemetery. The body will repose at the residence until Wednesday noon.

Hurlbut--James E. (Jack) Hurlbut, aged 59, of Holland, passed away Tuesday evening. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James F. Miner--Wilbur R. Miner, aged 49, formerly of Grand Rapids, died Tuesday morning at his home in Galesburg, Mich. He is survived by his widow, Harriet; a son, Bud; a sister, Mrs. Rena Spencer of Galesburg; one brother, Louis Miner of Kalamazoo. Funeral services will be held at 1 o’clock Friday at the Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home, Kalamazoo, Rev. Don L. DeCoursey officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove cemetery, Galesburg, Mich.

Hamstra--Dick Hamstra, aged 45, of 30 Maplewood, S.E., passed away Tuesday noon. Besides the widow, Nettie, he is survived by one son, Raymond, and three daughters, Verda, Donna and Ophel; his father, A. Hamstra; five brothers, Jake, John, Joe, Theodore and Gerrit; four sisters, Mrs. William VanDuinen, Mrs. Jake Kraal, Mrs. Hyko DeWind and Mrs. Peter DeWind. Gruenbauer--Mrs. Margaret H. Gruenbauer, aged 38, wife of George F. Gruenbauer, passed away Tuesday afternoon at her home, 1116 Muskegon-av., N.W. Besides her husband she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Fred Lanninga of Grand Rapids; two brothers, Thomas and William Schloss of California. Toohey--John Gregory Toohey, aged 3 days, of 447 Second-st., N.W., entered into rest Tuesday afternoon at Butterworth hospital. He is survived by the parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Martin Toohey; one sister, Deliah; the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Thomas Toohey, all of Grand Rapids. His body will repose at the VanStrien Funeral Chapel until 10 o’clock Thursday morning when it will be removed to Fair Plains cemetery for memorial services.

Segrist--John M. Segrist, aged 68, 1318 Jefferson-av., passed away Saturday night at Lake City, Mich. Surviving are his widow, Julia; a daughter, Mrs. Geneva Visser of Grand Rapids; two grandchildren, Stuart Martin and Wanda Joyce Visser, an aunt, Mrs. Caroline Oliphant of Chicago; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Segrist will repose at Greenhoe’s Chapel until noon Wednesday when he will taken to the Immanuel Presbyterian church where funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock. Shapiro--Abraham M. Shapiro, aged 68, of 26 Howland-st., N. W., passed away Saturday evening. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Sarah F. Davidson--Mrs. Geraldine Davidson, aged 66, wife of A.E. Davidson of 903 Lake-dr., S.E., passed away Monday morning at St. Mary’s hospital. Brown--Clark L. Brown, 76, of 1224 Bates-st., S. E., passed away Saturday evening at Blodgett Memorial hospital,. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Nora Meeker of Sparta, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Brown was removed to the Metcalf Mortuary, where he will remain until noon Tuesday at which time he will be taken to Fountain Street Baptist church to lie in state until 2 o’clock, the hour of services. Interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

Thomas--Sherman B. Thomas, aged 76, of 1134 Walker-av., N. W., passed away Saturday at Butterworth hospital after a lingering illness. He is survived by four daughters, Miss Hester Thomas, Mrs. Carl Andre, Mrs. Thelma Grundman, and Mrs. Leo Esch, and five grandchildren. Mr. Thomas reposes at the Alt Mortuary, where funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Interment in Greenwood cemetery.

Wierenga--Mrs. Tryntje Wierenga, aged 76, passed away Saturday evening at the home of her son Jorn, 1755 Boston-st., S.E. Vos--Services for Mrs. Anna W. Vos, wife of Richard Q., Vos of 1424 Lake-dr., S.E. will be held at 4 o’clock Tuesday at Central Reformed church with Dr. John A. Dykstra officiating. "Zeeland Soldier Killed in Italy" Zeeland--S/Sgt. Foster M. DeVries, 26, died April 22 of wounds received in Italy, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence DeVries of R2, have been informed. He was attached to the 1^st armored division of the 5^th army and participated in the African and Sicilian campaigns. Surviving besides the parents are the widow, the former Ruth Nieboer of Holland, and two brothers, Lee at home and Pvt. Ted with the 3^rd army in Germany.

Benjamin Clapp Robinson, 76, retired utility executive and long time member of the Peninsular club, died September 11, at his residence, 50 College Ave., S.E.
Born at Port Byron, N.Y., July 11, 1870, Mr. Robinson came to Grand Rapids as a boy with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Robinson, and spent most of his life here. While engaged in the gas utility business, however, he also made headquarters in Flint and Ypsilanti.
He attended Central high school, Grand Rapids, and University of Michigan, where he was affiliated with Alpha Delta Phi fraternity. Besides the widow, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Mary Damon of Los Angeles.
Services were held Friday, September 13, at Grace Episcopal church with interment in Oak Hill cemetery, Grand Rapids.

"Bun" Smith Dies--Laurence W. Smith, a member of the Peninsular Club and one of Grand Rapids’ leading attorney, and a past master as toastmaster is no more.
He was a past President of the Grand Rapids Bar Association, a past President of the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce, and was President of the Board of Library Commissioners at the time of his death.
He was a member of Park Congregational Church, Kent County Club, the Torch Club and the Schubert Club, of which he at one time served as President.

G. A. Wolf, 90, Passes--Oldest practicing lawyer in the Grand Rapids Bar Association, Gustave A. Wolf, a long time member of the Peninsular Club, died recently after a short illness.
He came to Grand Rapids as a child and began his legal career 63 years ago. Board member of Isabella Home, he was also a member of the State Bar Association, life member of Doric lodge. F.&AM, belonged to the Elks and the Old Residents Association, and had never missed a class reunion at the University of Michigan since he was graduated in 1878.
