Mrs. Nancy A. Scott
At Grand Haven on the 17th Inst., wife of James P. Scott, Esq., in the 40th
year of her age.
Mrs. Scott was of mixed descent - her father being an Indian trader, and her
mother a native of the Ojibway tribe. When a child she was placed in the care of
the Mackinaw Mission, on Lake Superior, where she received the advantages of
education, and embraced the Christian religion. She was a woman of marked
personal beauty, quite accomplished, and with much force of character. In every
relation in life - as wife, mother, acquaintances and friend - she made her
influence felt and respected, in the community in which she lived by whom her
many excel, tendicies were fully recognized and high appreciated. Her loss has
left a large space in the social and religious circle of the Haven. The funeral,
which took place on the 19th last, was attended by almost the entire village,
thus testifying the high estimation in which she was held by all ranks and
classes of society
