Obituary of J. W. TenHaaf
(From the Grandville Ave. Record, April 26, 1912 – Pg. #)
J. W. Ten Haaf, aged 81 years old died last Saturday at 812 Grandville Avenue. The deceased followed the death of his wife which occurred only three months ago.
He was one of the early settlers here. And Ten Haaf Court was named after him.
Mr. Ten Haaf was born in the Netherlands and came to America in 1856, making
a home in the woods at what is now Holland.
Mr. Ten Haaf leaves one son, P. A. Ten Haaf, and three daughters, Mrs. J.
Formsma of this city, Mrs. George Tolsma of Kalamazoo, and Miss Martha Ten Haaf,
who made her home with the father.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the residence at 1:30 and at the Fifth
Avenue Christian Reformed church at 2 o’clock.
Mr. Ten Haaf was the type of sturdy Hollanders who built homes in the wilderness
of their newly adopted country, and reared their families according to the
standards of the fatherland.
