Tyrone Township, District No. 1 School- 1873

The next meeting on Sept. 1, 1873 was a highly contested meeting with meeting minutes rejected and ultimately accepted over differences of opinions on school house site and a percieved mismanagement by the sitting school board of money, and it took well into the year to resolve and rewrite the record. The school board minutes begin for the first time Sept. 1, 1873 as, "The annual school meeting of School District No. 1, Fractional of the Townships of Tyrone and Casnovia. Every school board minutes after this began with the note that it was the ‘legal voters’ of the Tyrone & Fractional Casnovia school district presiding. The meeting went on to acknowledge that "the school house of Fractional District No. 1 of Tyrone & Casnovia is not fit for said school district and is not in a central part for the inhabitants of said district. Therefore be it further resolved that this school meeting vote that the school site of the Fractional School District No. 1 of Tyrone & Casnovia is hereby removed within the Village of Casnovia or adjacent thereto." The vote was forty-three in favor of moving the school site and twenty against." These minutes and votes were rejected in another school board meeting held Sept 29th, 1873 and then reaccepted in a later meeting with the proveso that it be noted "the discrepency of money was a mistake of the Township board of Tyrone which would be evicted as same as said board could overturn the fracus to which report was accepted by said meeting." Needless to say the differences over this matter were hot. In 1873 J.M. Armsrtong was the director of the school again and followed the same style listing the students by family group, not alphabetically by the last name. His spelling of the names did improve slightly and it makes it easier to follow along with each family. |
