Tyrone Township, District No. 1 School- 1874

There were three school board meetings in the fall of 1874. M.L. Squires was the director in the first two and T.C. Stinson was elected and precided over the third meeting Nov. 2, 1874. The Date on all three say Tyrone as the place for the meetings. The annual report and finacial report were read and accepted in the first two meetings. The third meeting of the ‘legal voters’ of the District No. 1 Fractional Tyrone & Casnovia was called to order by Uriah Chubb, Chairman protem and twenty dollars was put in the contingency fund. The following year, 1875, there were no school board meeting minutes found in this journal.

The next school director, T.C. Stinson, was elected September 5th in 1874 at the school board meeting; running against M.L. Squire by 33 to 19. Mr. Stinson signed the 1874 fall school board meeting November 2nd, 1874, but the next minutes recorded for the school board were on September 4th, 1876 and are recorded on the same page as the minutes from the 1874 meeting.

The acting director for the beginning of the year 1874, Milon L. Squire, took the school census in August 28th, 1874, and he continued the previous style listing student names by family groups, but there also seem to be some space between these family groups in some instances. Almost a listing of children sitting together at school. Mr. Squire also gave the title of Miss to a few young girls, too; giving the sense that they were sitting in front of him calling out their own names. He also wrote in the margins describing a set of twins and an adopted sister.
