In 1884 The school board hired Ada Merrill to teach from Nov. 24, 1884 through March 1885. They also hired Miss Frankie Barkman to teach commencing Dec. 1883 through August 1884. She had worked the previous year as well. Ella Austin was also hired as a teacher and worked the summer school from May 4^th, 1884 through September. These teacher contracts, unlike others were handwritten as the school journal had run out of space and blank sheets were used by E.B. Chase the director for the purpose.

The school board minutes were also written on an inserted piece of paper. E. Smith won the lowest bid for wood that year to be paid "9 shillings per cord, also to furnish the other 5 at $.95 cents per cord." The financial records also show that Gilbert Hanna was paid for repairs to the school house.

The William White family letters which are part of my family collection and are currently being published in the ‘Michigana’ magazine, have a mention from one of the brothers in Nov. 1884 that school begins next Monday. And his brother Christopher White is going to school up to Casnovia. This implys that there were two schools in the area for the White family to attend, but all the White family children were enrolled here as well.
