German M. E. Church

The Zion Methodist Episcopal church was organized under the pastorate of Rev. Christian Spaeth, who began to preach in 1891, six miles north of Lowell in a Christian church. A Sunday school was organized and the mission which in the beginning had to battle against many difficulties, grew steadily. For five years the meetings were held in this Christian church. The desire to have a place of worship of their own became stronger and so they built a new church on its present site which was dedicated the same year under the pastorate of Rev. William Rogatzky.

Among the early Swiss settlers were Mr. and Mrs. Andreas Blaser, and family, the Bieri’s, Wittenbach’s and others followed.

The following ministers served the congregation: Christian Spaeth from 1891-1892, Henry Metzger from 1892-1895, William Rogatzky from 1895-1897, Gustav Maag from 1897-1900, W. P. Rueckheim from 1900-1903, F. W. Magdanz from 1903-1907, Henry Bank from 1907-1917, Max Lohs from 1917-1918, who died here during the flu epidemic, J.J. Link from 1918-1925, John Claus, the present pastor, from 1925-1931. In 1902, under the pastorate of Rev. W. P. Rueckhaim, the parsonage was bought. The membership of the congregation consists of 100 members.
