John Q. Look was born at Farmers Creek, Lapeer County, Michigan, Dec. 22, 1847. After his mother’s death in 1851 he came to Lowell to live with his sister, the wife of Rev. D. L. Eaton. He attended the Lowell schools until about 16 years of age when he entered the employ of Charles Hine in the drug business. The firm of Wooding & Look was organizing about 1870 and continued in the drug business for a number of years, located in the building now occupied by the Lowell Journal. He later bought out his partner and continued in the business until 1885 when he sold out to W. S. Winegar and entered the employ of C. J. Church bank, and served here, and Sault Ste. Marie and Tecumseh as cashier of banks. Mr. Look was a 33rd degree Mason and served as Master of the Lowell Lodge No. 90 for several years and afterwards elected Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Michigan and the Masonic Lodge at Clare was named in his honor—"The John Q. Look Lodge." He died at the Michigan Masonic Home, Alma, Mich. October, 21, 1920 and was buried under Grand Masonic honors in Oakwood Cemetery, Lowell, Mich. |
