Church of the Nazarene
The Church of the Nazarene was organized in Lowell, Mich., Dec.13, 1923, in the first floor of the second building west of the Ledger office. The charter members were Mr. Samuel Onan, Mrs. Helen Onan, Mrs. Mary Onan, Mr. Roy Johnson, Mrs. Ida Johnson, Mrs. Iva McIntyre, Mr. Andrew Houseman, Mrs. Emeta Houseman, Fred Kenyon, Rev. Elmer Buck, Mrs. Theresa Buck. About one year afterward the church moved upstairs in the same building. After the first of April, 1924, the residence building at the corner of Washington and Avery streets was bought and remodelled for a church and parsonage (from Willard E. Rogers and wife.) The remaining church debt was cleared off and the church was incorporated in February 1930 while Rev. Earl J. Stevens was pastor. In 1930 the old barn, which was one of Lowell’s old landmarks from many years, was razed and a near one-car garage was built in its place. The church has thirty-five members at the present time. Rev. Elmer L. Buck was pastor from Dec. 1923 to Jan. 1927. Rev. J. Francis Fuller was pastor from Aug. 1927 to Mar. 1928. Rev. Earl J. Steven was pastor from June 12, 1928 to present. |
