Amaziah Wedgewood, son of Charles and Martha (Michell) Wedgewood, was born in Lewiston, Maine, 10 March 1804. His father was of English descent and a native of New Hampshire. His mother was a descendent from a French family of Maine. When eight years old his parents moved to New York, where he lived with them until he was 24, when he was married in Avon, Somerset County, Maine to Elizabeth Kelley, daughter of Charles and Judith (Wilber) Kelley. She was born of Irish parents May 15^th, near Portland, Maine. The marriage took place 7 January 1830. Ten children of eleven lived: Ursula, Frances, Eunice, Charles H., Amaziah, Angeline, Helen, Gustavus, Orin, Florence and Isabel. In October, 1852, he went to Warrenville, Cuyahoga, Ohio and four years after to Byron, settling on 40 acres of land in section 17. He was a member of the M. E. Church and his wife belonged to the Society of Disciples.

Charles H., the eldest son, enlisted at Grand Rapids, under General Sherman and served about three years in the Army of the Cumberland. Mr. Wedgewood’s grandfather was a soldier of the Revolutionary War and was at Bunker Hill. Today we still have with us Miss Olive Wedgewood, 75 years old, and her brother, Robert, he is 73 years old. The Wedgewoods in Grandville, Billy Melin O’Mears and Audrains are descendants.
