Owen Narrengang, born 23 Aug 1827 in Monroe County, Pennsylvania.

At the age of nineteen he opened a blacksmith shop in Livingston county, NY which he operated fro ten years. In 1854, he came to Oakfield, Kent county and farmed for two years after which he worked a year in building the D & M Railroad. Then he moved to Grand Rapids, employed three years grading streets. He acted as foreman in Eagle Plaster Mills and in the plaster mills at Wyoming. After this he served as an engineer in the plaster mills and then was employed for three years on fencing on the L.S. & M. S. Railroad.

He then went to Grandville and stayed for one year and in the fall came to Byron Center. He purchased a blacksmith shop and two lots on Main Street. He built a house, store and agricultural warehouse. In 1873, he started a business as a dealer in agricultural implements and in 1877 opened a store comprising a general store of dry goods, groceries, drugs, medicine, boots, shoes, hardware and crockery.

He married 5 Sep 1849 in Livingston County to Polly Kennedy, daughter of John and Maria (Schmerhorn) Kennedy.. He was a republican and was elected to several township offices.
