Glen E. Martin p.333a - Glen E. Martin, proprietor of the Autolectric Service Company, was born in North Dakota on February 22, 1900. He came when a child to Berlin, Ottawa county, Michigan, with his parents, Herbert and Angeline (Crane) Martin. His mother died in 1923 at the age of sixty-five. His father is still engaged in the business of farming, residing at Berlin. Glen was educated in the Berlin public schools and high school. He came to Grand Rapids in 1917 and found employment with the Monarch Storage Battery Company and later with the Michigan Tire and Accessory Company. He enlisted in the United States service during the World war in 1918, first serving for about five months with the student army training corps, then later in active military service until his honorable discharge in December. In the spring of 1923 Glen embarked in his own business, and in the short span of two years has met with a splendid success. On June 25, 1923, he was joined in wedlock with Miss Nellie Bell, of Grand Rapids, a graduate of the Central high school. Mr. Martin and wife have one daughter, Phillis Ann, born March 17, 1924. |
