Frank H. Mathison Page 572-573 - Frank H. Mathison, president and general manager of the Michigan Lithographing Company, corner Fulton and Carrollton streets, is a leader in his line of business in Grand Rapids and vicinity, having built up an extensive business in his chosen field. Mr Mathison is a native of Chicago, and received his education in the public schools of that city. He then learned the trade of lithographing and started in business in his native city. He first organized the firm of Mathison & Wagner, but after one year came to Grand Rapids. Here he established the Grand Rapids Lithographing Company, which he successfully conducted until 1902. He then sold out his initial venture and organized the Michigan Lithographing Company, but within a space of one and one-half years they purchased the Grand Rapids Lithographing Company and since that time have operated both companies retaining both trade names. Mr Mathison is now president, treasurer and general manager. In additon to his successful business career he has devoted considerable time to fraternal, religious and civic activities. He has taken the work in all bodies of the Masonic order except the thirty-third degree, is also a member of the B.P.O.E., and Highland and Masonic Country clubs. His religious affiliation is with the Fountain Street Baptist Church. Mr Mathison was joined in holy wedlock in 1901 with Miss Rhoda Mills, of Lowell, Michigan. To this union was born one son, Gerald, who pursued his preliminary education and was graduated from the Howe Military School, of Howe, Indiana, and then continued his educational courses at the University of Michigan. Upon the completion of his schooling he spent one year with the Michigan Lithographing Company, then went to Los Angeles, where he widened the scope of his experience and is now back in the company. He is twenty-three years of age. Mrs Mathison died in March 16, 1916, at the age of thirty-six years.
