A newspaper article from 1849, about a shake-up in the Dryden post-office.

ANOTHER HEAD OFF.—We learn that our democratic friend Williams has been removed from the post-office at Dryden, Lapeer co., and John M. Lamb appointed in his place. Mr. Lamb was the Van Buren candidate for Congress last fall, having been a whig all the days of his life. What does this mean? Is Fitz Warren selling Gen. Taylor? He is certainly appointing his enemies to office.

The following is said to have been written on the last post-bill from Dryden, by Mr. Williams:

Fitz Warren has spoken, and off goes my head,
But still I am better than a dozen men dead,
To assist in routing the whole Taylor crew
In the good time that’s coming in 18 fifty-two.

The “cause” why I’m removed, allow me to guess,
I didn’t vote for Taylor, but did for Gen. Cass;
My Lamb-like successor is an independent man,
Though he didn’t vote for Taylor, he did for little Van.
