FIRE AT DRYDEN A Hotel and Other Buildings Burned to the Ground. IMLAY CITY, April 19.–The neighboring Town of Dryden was visited by a destructive fire early this morning. The fire broke out in O. B. Eaton’s hotel about 2 a. m., which in less than one hour was entirely consumed. The flames also consumed the hotel barn and an adjoining building occupied by C. Van Horn as a meat market and J. W. Cole as an agricultural warehouse. Flying sparks set fire to James Brophy’s barn, forty rods distant, which was also burned to the ground. The inmates of the hotel barely had time to escape with their lives, the proprietor, O. B. Eaton, forgetting his stockings in his hurry. The hotel was one of the landmarks of the town. But very little was saved in the meat market and agricultural warerooms. John Heenan lost about $1,000 worth of goods that were stored above the meat market. Cole’s loss was about $500; Van Horn’s, $300; O. B. Eaton’s, $4,000, insured for $3,000; Brophy’s loss not known.
