Traverse City Record-Eagle February 28, 2005 Marjorie A. (Bell) Dachtler Died February 24, 2005 BELLAIRE - Marjorie A. (Bell) Dachtler, 95, of Bellaire, died late Thursday night, Feb. 24, 2005, at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility. Born March 29, 1909, in Portsmouth, Iowa, she was the daughter of Walter and Madge (White) Bell. On Dec. 31, 1930, in Harlan, Iowa, she married William C. Dachtler, who died in 1988. Marjorie was a graduate of Iowa State University. A homemaker, she was an avid reader and was fond of gardening. She moved to Bellaire in 1996, coming from Kimberling City, Mo. Marjorie is survived by two daughters, Roxanne Wilson of New Orleans and Sally Rodgers of Eastport; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Louise, at birth; an infant son, William Lee Dachtler; and a son-in-law, Robert T. Rodgers. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held in the spring in Kimberling City Cemetery, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be directed to the animal welfare group of one's choice, or to Meadow Brook Medical Care facility. DECHOW, member of the Leelanau County Welfare Commission, passed away suddenly Monday, September 3, at his farm home in Cleveland Township. John Henry Dechow was born on April 22, 1872 on the farm homesteaded by his father in the late 1860's. He was the fifth of a family of 12 children. His father was also John Dechow (Dago) and a veteran of the Civil War. His mother was Elenora (sic) Shalda, both of whom came from western Europe in early childhood. Mr. Dechow spent his early life on the farm and in the lumber woods. About 1900 he went to Chicago and was employed in the Armour Company packing plant for several years. Due to the ill health of his father, he returned to the old home and took over the farm where he spent the rest of his life. He was always actively interested in public affairs of his township and county. For many years he was a member of the District Board of Education and from 1919 to 1933 he served on the Leelanau County Board of Supervisors, as supervisor from Cleveland Township. He was also Treasurer of the Old Settlers Association, and a member of the Port Oneida Grange. When the new Welfare Department was organized in 1939 he was appointed as one of the Commissioners, which position he held until the time of his death. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church in Good Harbor. In 1902 he was united in marriage to Miss Zena Steiger of Cleveland township, who died in 1920. To this union were born six children, Mrs. Evelyn Kropp of Cneterville township, Carl of Elk Rapids, Mrs. Ida Pinfold of Cincinnati, John of Leland, and Mrs. Olive Fredrickson of Northport, and a daughter who died in infancy. In 1922 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Bufka of Centerville townsip, who survives him. To this union were born two children, Donald in the U.S. Navy and stationed in the Pacific, and Eileen, who graduated from the Glen Arbor high school in the spring of 1945. Also surviving him are four sisters, Mrs. Martin Basch (Ella), Mrs. Albert Prause (Ida), Mrs. Richard Cluff (Sophie), and Mrs. Milton Manney (Olive), all of Maple City, and two brothers, Frank C. Dechow of Detroit and Judge Fred A. Dechow of Northport. Fifteen grandchildren also survive him. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, September 6 at St. Paul's Lutheran church, and burial was made in the family lot in Cleveland cemetery. Rev. Edward F. Schmidt officiated at the services. The abundance of flowers and large attendance at the funeral attested the high esteem and respect held for him by his neighbors and friends in the township and county. Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah. Memorial services will be held Saturday, Jan 29, at 3 p.m., at the Family of Faith Nazarene Church in Frankfort, with the Rev. Rodney Knapp officiating. DELANO, 87, of Mancelona, formerly of the Kalamazoo area, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at the Charlevoix Area Hospital. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Rupert, Durham, Marshall and Gren Life Story Funeral Home, Vicksburg Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home. Local arrangements were handled by the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Contributed by Sharon Compton Baatz May 22, 2005 obit on June 2, 2005 Leelanau Enterprise Dobson, Louise 1913-2005 A funeral service was held Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Curch in Suttons Bay for Suttons Bay resident Louise Dobson who died at Munson Hospice House on May 22. She was 92. She was born on May 12, 1913 on a farm near Suttons Bay, the child of Peter and Marit (Bele) Setterbo. In June of 1943, she married Leslie Dobson, who preceded her in death in 1988. She was a charter member of the Christian Radich Lodge of the Sons of Norway and a lifelong member of Immanauel Lutheran Church in Suttons Bay. She is survived by two daughtes, Nancy (Tom) Brown and Joan (Frank) Hughes, both of Traverse City; 12 gr.children; 23 grt. Gr. Children; and two grt. Grt. Gr. Children. She was also preceded in death by her son, Gary; sisters, Mali Davis, Rachel Anderson and Gina Dalzell; and brothers, Martin and Paulus Setterbo. Donner Died January 28, 2005 COMMERCE TOWNSHIP - Max J. Donner, 75, passed away Jan. 28, 2005, at Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital in Commerce Township. He was the beloved husband of the late Marguerite V. Herring of Cheboygan; loving father of Sherry Pelech of Arizona, Susan Konicki of Petoskey and Kelly and Myong Donner of Commerce Township; dearest grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of seven. Interment will be in Pine Hill Cemetery in Cheboygan. His last wish was no memorial services. The family would appreciate memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 18505 W. 12 Mi. The family will be at the Herbert Funeral Home Wednesday, Jan. 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. to receive friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at the First Baptist Church in Manistee, where visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Contributed by Sharon Compton Baatz Traverse City Record-Eagle January 25, 2005 Daniel Loren Drake Died January 24, 2005 BEULAH - Daniel Loren Drake, 41, of Beulah, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at his residence. He was born July 17, 1963, in Traverse City, the son of Douglas and Charlotte (Blissett) Drake. Daniel enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spending time with his friends. Daniel is survived by his mother, Charlotte Drake of Beulah; his grandmother, Elma Oosdyke of Traverse City; two sons, Joshua and Caleb Drake of Illinois; his brother, Dennis Drake; two sisters, Deanna (Ed) Glinski of Kewadin and Debra (Scott) Briggs of Kewadin; three nephews, Eric, Dustin and Edward; and two nieces, Brenna and Makayla. Daniel was preceded in death by his father, Douglas Drake. Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time. He was born in Goshen, Ind., moving to Sebring, Fla., in 1993 from South Boardman. Willard was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was active in trucking most of his life. He was a former employee for Georgia Pacific and was employed for Harder Hall Golf Course. A member of VFW Post 8684 in Traverse City, he was an avid golfer. Willard is survived by his wife, Alice M. Drake of Sebring, Fla.; son, Tom Drake; daughter, Julie Drake; stepchildren, Donald Sterzik, Diane M. Johnson, Mary Wilson, Marsha Olson and David Sterzik, all residing out of town; brothers, LaMar Drake of Sebring, Fla. and Harold Drake; sisters, Elsie Miller, Bonita Maxon of Sebring, Fla., Norma Jean Miller and Anna Marie Clark; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Virgil, Robert and Calvin. Services will be today, March 12, 2005, at 11 a.m., at the Morris Funeral Chapel, where the family will receive friends 30 minutes prior. The Rev. George Schoolcraft will officiate. Duperon Died January 22, 2005 LAKE LEELANAU - Helen Clare (Ross) Duperon, 90, of Lake Leelanau, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at Munson Medical Center. Helen was born Feb. 3, 1914, in Mesick; she was the daughter of Henry and Anna (Musil) Ross. On Dec. 28, 1935, she married Wilfred J. Duperon at St. Joseph's Church Bohemian Settlement in Maple City. Helen was the granddaughter of the original 1855 settlers of the Bohemian Settlement from Prague, Czechoslovakia. Helen was a homemaker, the loving mother of seven children. She was an organist for St. Joseph's Church for six years. Helen will always be remembered for her excellent cooking, especially her zucchini bread. She was preceded in death by her parents; her twin brother, Harold; sisters, Anna and Mable; a daughter, Dorothy M. Hodge in January of 2002; and an angel of a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn. She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Lou (Steve) Mikowski of Lake Leelanau and Barbara (Edward) Fleis of Cedar; four sons, Donald (Mary Ann) of Lake Leelanau, Wilfred (Lisa) of Lake Leelanau, Robert (Lucinda) of Garfield Township and Steve (Jane) of Leelanau Township; 27 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 26, from 3 to 9 p.m., with a rosary at 7:30 p.m., at the Martinson Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lake Leelanau. Burial will be in the spring. Memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church. Formerly of Plymouth, she has been a resident of Traverse City since 1986. Dorothy was a 1942 graduate of Eastern High School in Detroit, a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and a member of the Communion Guild. She was employed by Millikens for 12 years, worked at Marshall Fields for five years, and was an accomplished seamstress. Born July 10, 1924, in Detroit, she was the daughter of Alfred C. and Evelyn M. (Cook) David. On May 25, 1946, in Detroit, she married Walter D. During, who survives. Also surviving are her daughter, Sharon (Bernie) Jackson of Traverse City; grandsons, Scott (Karen Johnston) Jackson of Traverse City and Christopher (Stephanie) Jackson of Traverse City; great-granddaughter, Sophie R. Jackson; sister, Barbara (Henry) LaHousse of Brooksville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation will take place at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, at 11 a.m. Burial will take place in the Oakwood Cemetery.
