Colin Wood Phend
May 26, 2005
TRAVERSE CITY - Colin Wood Phend was born on May 26, 2005. Surrounded by the love of his parents, Matt and Julie, and supported by the tremendous care of the doctors and nursing staff of Munson Hospital, Colin passed away peacefully two hours later.

Colin is survived by his mother and father and his sisters, Kayla and Lauren.

No life is measured by its length. Colin's brief life is marked by several things. Anticipating his presence in the family brought hope and joy to life, making us consider the way in which we wish every child would be wanted. When troubles arose during the pregnancy, Colin brought family and friends together in deeper ways. When the challenges of preparing for Colin's birth arose, we learned the value of seeking the help of experts and discovered just how caring those people could be. When he was born, we felt others share our pain. And in the days since his death, we have learned once again that our hardest days and life's greatest challenges do not have to force us into loneliness but can drive us into one another's arms.

The greatest memorial for Colin's brief life would be for each of us to take a good look around us: celebrate the blessings of this life; consider the miracle of having people to love; risk loving a little more deeply every day.
