Traverse City Record-Eagle January 26, 2005 TRAVERSE CITY - Dorothy Louise Uhl, 87, of Traverse City, passed away Monday night, Jan. 24, 2005, at Munson Medical Center. Dottie was born Aug. 10, 1917, in Detroit, daughter of Gustav and Louise (Rehbene) Themer. She married Fred Wallace Uhl in May of 1942, in Detroit. Dottie was very active in her younger years and enjoyed golf and bowling, but playing bridge was her true passion, especially duplicate bridge. She also loved gardening and spoiling her calico cat, Tammy. Dottie is survived by a daughter, Deni (John) Scrudato of Traverse City; son, James (June) Uhl of Kentwood; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her former husband of 32 years, Fred. Cremation has taken place. Family visitation will be at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to the Traverse City Senior Center or the Cherryland Humane Society. Contributed by Sharon Compton Baatz Traverse City Record-Eagle March 9, 2005 KEWADIN - Our beloved Faye Economas-Underwood left this earth surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, March 6, 2005, after a courageous 10-year battle with cancer. The loss of Faye will surely leave a deep void for all who knew her. For as much as Faye will be missed, however, she will be remembered by friends and family for her wit, good humor, unending spirit and gracious love. Faye celebrated life each and every day with unending enthusiasm and positive thought. Her unflagging Greek Orthodox faith sustained her throughout her life and gave added meaning to her relationships with family and friends. We will continue to celebrate Faye as she will always remain in our hearts, our thoughts and our lives. She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Long Island South Hampton and a master's degree in student personnel from Indiana University. Before coming to live in Michigan in 1979, Faye worked in student housing at the University of Maryland and Montclair State University in New Jersey. She retired from the State of Michigan in 1997, and subsequently spent many hours volunteering for the American Red Cross. Faye was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Lansing and also The Traverse City Orthodox Mission Church. She is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Robert; her four stepchildren, Karen (James) Peaney, Ellen (Nathan Maher) Underwood, Tom (Penny) Underwood, and Tim (Jeanne Ann) Underwood; and her father, Leo Economas. Faye was adored by her seven grandchildren, Cori Jean Black, Brandon and Elise Peaney, Lance, Hannah, and Adam and Nicholas Underwood; her cousin, Tasia Chagetas; and dear friend, Susan Hagen. She is also survived by many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Faye was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Economas. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 10, 2005, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, where the Trisagion will be held at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held Friday, March 11, 2005, at 10 a.m., at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1701 E. Saginaw St., Lansing, with the Rev. Dr. Mark Sietsema officiating. Interment will follow at Deepdale Memorial Gardens. Urch, 80, of Lake Ann, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at Munson Medical Center. Formerly of Benton Harbor, he had been a resident of Lake Ann the past 20 years. John served with the United States Marine Corps during World War II at Guadalcanal and Okinawa, and for many years had been active in the reunions of his VMTB131 unit. He worked as Stores Keeper for the Indiana and Michigan Electric Company in Benton Harbor and also worked for American Electric Power at the Cook Nuclear Plant, retiring in 1984 as Stores Supervisor. He enjoyed spending winters in Texas for the past 20 years, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Born Aug. 2, 1924, in Benton Harbor, he was the son of John W. and Martha T. (Taube) Urch. On June 16, 1947, in Benton Harbor, he married Lorinne M. Cary, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Thomas and James; brother, Walter of Watervliet; sister, Jean (Emery) Rantz of Stevensville; two grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services will be held in the Coloma area in the spring. Memorials may be directed to the Munson Medical Center, 1105 Sixth St., Traverse City, MI 49684. Arrangements are being handled by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
