Dec. 8, 1882, from a Hudson newspaper: Married in Allen, William H.Knickerbocker, cashier of the Elkhart, Ind. National Bank & Miss Nellie J. Winchester of Allen. A huge wedding & it took nearly a column in this week's Standard to enumerate the presents bestowed on the happy twain.

Marriage: Mary E. Vreeland and Robert Clark, married Nov. 4, 1874, see the Adrian Daily Times and Expositor, Nov. 5, 1874, page 1, column 6.

Oct. 26, 1894, from a Hudson newspaper: Miss Leola Vreeland of Napoleon and Fred Crumley of Jackson Addison (this is certainly unclear) married at the home of J. G. Hetfield, Oct. 23rd, by Rev. Brooks.

From Adrian Daily Times and Expositor: Libbie Vreeland and Jeremiah Hyatt, married, Oct. 1, 1872, see the paper dated Oct. 4, 1872, page 2, column 6.

Published marriage, newspaper not identified: A Pretty Home Wedding. One of the prettiest home weddings that has occurred here this season was solemnized on Wednesday evening, Jan. 9th, 1901, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Elmer, 757 Kiss St., St. Paul, Minn, when their daughter was united in marriage to Norman G. Tedman of St. Anthony Park. The bride wasbecomingly gowned in white satin with trimmings of chiffon and duchess lace and carried bridal roses. The ceremony was performed in the presence of about fifty of the relatives of the bride and groom by the Rev. Dr. Homer C. Ashcraft of Grace M. E. church. They were the recipients of many beautiful presents, among which was a piano from the bride's father. Amidst a shower of rice and slippers, Mr. and Mrs. Tedman went to their home, and will be athome after Feb. 19th at 701 Pelham St., St. Anthony Park on Tuesdays. The bride is a niece of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Lockwood and a granddaughter of Ambrose Elmer, residing near Hudson.

Dec. 23, 1892, from a Hudson newspaper:
Mr. & Mrs. G. P. Terry of Albany,N.Y., announce the marriage of their daughter Frances Belle to Henry Irving Knickerbocker on Sat. Dec. 10th at residence of the bride's Uncle, A. L. Dennison, in Birmingham, England. The bride is a niece of Mrs. Jane A. Schermerhorn.

Morenci, July 15 - Fred Butler is a Morenci boy who clerks in a clothing store in Garrett, Indiana and is now home on his summer vacation. Early yesterday morning, he secured a rig and drove to Adrian, accompanied by Miss Edith Youngs, daughter of C. A. Youngs, a farmer living near Five Points.

They secured a marriage license and were married, and on the way home they stopped at the home of the bride's parents to get some clothing belonging to her. When the father found out what they had done he was very angry, locked her up in her room and sent Butler on to Morenci. When Butler reached here he was arrested by Deputy Sheriff Staniger, on a warrant sworn out by the girl's mother, charging him with swearing falsely to the girl's age in securing the license, she being under sixteen. He waived examination and gave bonds for his appearance in three weeks.

Married, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Gillett on Pleasant St., on Tuesday, December 30, Mr. Samuel Wolf, Sheriff of Lake County, and Miss Eva Gillett. Rev. George Talbot officiated.

Captain Byron Schermerhorn, who has been abroad, and returned to America last week, perpetrated a genuine surprise on his friends by bringing a bride home with him from Germany.

Married, George D. Rice, Hudson agent of the Mackinaw Railroad Company, and Mary Carpenter, daughter ofDaniel R. Carpenter. Friends present from out of town, were Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Clapp, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Waterman Mrs. Hoch, of Adrian, Miss Ida Read, of Detroit, Mr. and Mrs. C. A.Holbrook of Latham, Illinois, and Mr. and Mrs. D. N. Rice of Hudson.

Married, at the home of the bride's parents, Wednesday at 10;00 a. m., Miss Mattie Brazee to Mr. John Morrison of Toledo, by the Rev. Mr. Coate of Morenci.

Mr. Forrest Haynes of Jackson and Miss Grace Underwood of this place, were married at the residence of the bride's father Christmas morning. They left immediately for Jackson, where they will make their future home.Ogden Center--December 31

We venture that the happiest young man in town on Christmas day was Mr. Charles Baldwin of Madison, when in a few appropriate words, the Rev. S. H. Yager gave into his care and keeping for life, Miss Pearl L., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Fry.

Marriages In Steuben County Indiana

Over the years many Lenawee County residents have goneto Steuben County, Indiana to marry. The liberal marriagelaws in that county require no waiting period between theissuance of the license and the date of marriage.

Between 1952 and 1958 there were about 2,000 weddings inthe small wedding chapel named the "Chapel in the Garden", built by the First Congregational United Church of Christ of Angola, Indiana.

If you cannot locate your marriage in Lenawee County, youmight want to consider checking in Steuben County, Indiana.
