Snyder School Millbrook Township Information

Big Rapids Pioneer - Tuesday April 24, 1888 SOMETHING ELSE THIS TIME. School District No. 4, Millbrook Township, has furnished us considerable news the past year or two. A lawsuit involving several officers of the district has occupied the attention of the circuit court at interals for somethig like a year, and at least one perjury case has grown out of the difficulty, which is still unsettled. The assessor of the district, Mr. E.L. Cook is said to be responsible for the perjury case, (which was recently discontinued) and the same party is considerably interested in the last trasaction reported from the district, although the transaction may never be passed upon by the courts. A short time ago Mr. Cook sold his farm. located in the above mentioned school district, and commenced preparations with a view to locating in the South. At the time of selling out he had in his possession about $200 belonging to the district, which amount he deposited in a large envelope and placed in his desk, his intention being to turn the money to his successors when such person should be duly appointed. The other evening, during the general tearing up incident to the proposed removel, the house of Mr. Cook was entered by burglers, and the school money constituted the heft of the valuables that were trabsferred to some other locality. The mutilated envelope was picked up the following day some distance from the house, but the money has not been recovered, and the thieves are still at large, so far as known. At least one of Mr. Cook's bondsmen has been to Big Rapids to secure information in the matter of making good the loss. but we understand that Mr. Cook has concented to secure the district for the missing amount.

Big Rapids Pioneer - Thursday May 31, 1888. Ed Cook has turned over notes and paid to the District No. 4. the amount of money that was stolen a few weeks ago.
