EVERYBODY LOVES A PARADE

Big Rapids and Mecosta County have certainky had their fair share of parades over the years, from homecoming parades at the various high school and Farris Institute, College, University to Memorial Day and Veteran's Day parades, to the celebration of the nation's birthday and the anniversaries of our communities.

Some of those include (clockwise from top right) the Old and New Parade on July 3, 1930 as part of the Big Rapids Diamond Jubilee; preparation of an old fire wagon from Barryton by Cecil and Cecil (Bud) Darnell to appear in a Big Rapids parade in 1962; a parade in Barryton in 1918, Former Michigan Governor G. Mennan "Soapy" Williams walking in Big Rapids Centenial Parade in 1955; a parade down Michigan Avenue prior to 1922 when the present city hall, minus expansions and renovations, was built in the location of the white buiding in the background; the Consumers Power entry in the Centennial parade, and a parade on Michigan Avenue in the early 1960's.
