FROM THE PICNIC BASKET
Years ago, before the days of a fast-food restaurant on every corner from here to there, picnics were common place as a recreational activity and as a necessity while on the road. The picture of the large gathering (at right) of picnickers comes from the files of the Mecosta County Historical Society and is likely that of an old family reunion and seems to fit the 1940's era. A second picture from the Historical Society (bottom right) may well represent one of those quick stops for a picnic meal on the way to somewhere. Picnic meals were common during excursions to the old fish hatchery in Paris (bottom left). (Pioneer file photos)
