FIRST FRAME SCHOOL BUILT IN 1859
The first frame school building in the county was a two story edifice built in Big Rapids in 1859 on the land given by (George B.) Warren & (Chauncey P.) Ives for this purpose, corner of Michigan Avenue and Oak Street. This building was afterward moved into the block just south (Transformed into a dwelling house) to make way for a brick structure.
