CHARGE LOSS TO TWO TREASURERS
BIG RAPIDS BOOKS SHOW DISCREPANCY OF $4,116 TO DATE
BIG RAPIDS, Mich., June 28. - The shortage in the books of the city treasurer, which are being audited by Walter L. Schultus, was found today to be at least $4,116. Of this amount, $1,300 is charged against Ernest Franck, and $2,760 against N. E. Waldo former treasurers.
Franck showed up at the city officw today with the much desired bank books, and spent most of the day figuring in an effort to prove that his accounts were all right, and that the accountant was wrong. He still maintains that everything will be straightened out when he finishes his work.
It developed today from statements made by the bonding house representative that thw bonding house is held liable only for a definitive time, usually six months after the official leaves his office. Therefore the company could not be held for the Waldo shortage.
Mr. Waldo stands ready to settle with the city, he says, as soon as the auditor completes his work and finds out the exact amount of the shortage.
