Marinette Daily Eagle, Thurs., 26 Mar 1942, p 1 DEATH CLAIMS PRIME BELAND - LONG TIME MENOMINEE RESIDENT WAS ARDENT ASTRONOMY STUDENT Prime Beland, 75, a resident of Menominee for about a half century, died from a long ailment late Wednesday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John J. Settersten, 202 Bay Shore street, Marinette. Pursuing a hobby of studying the stars for many years Mr. Beland was perhaps one of the most ardent and best informed students of astronomy in Menominee. His interesting data and other information concerning the stars and other planets pleased many a listener. He knew most of them by name and could point them out. For three decases he was night watchman at the Superior Sugar Refining company in Menominee, a position from which he retired in 1936. Born in St. Leon, Canada, on April 10, 1867, he came to Menominee when he was about 25 years old and had resided there since. Mr. Beland leaves his wife, the former Ellen McGuire whom he married on September 16, 1895, in Menominee; three sons, Arthur Beland, who is in the United States navy, John and Edward Beland of Menominee, three daughters, Mrs. John (Catherine) Settersten of Marinette, Mrs. William (Florence) Bero and Mrs. Lando (Laura) Fehrenbach of Menominee, and 14 grandchildren. The remains were removed to the Roy Cadieu funeral chapel where they lie in state from Friday morning until 8:30 a. m. Saturday when final rites will be conducted. At 9 a.m. Saturday the Rev. Francis Geynet will officiate at final rites in St. Ann's church, of which the deceased was a member for many years. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery. |
