Company K of the 1st New York Cavalry, was organized at Grand Rapids, Michigan and they mustered into the United States service on August 12, 1861.Their whole term of service was in the Army of the Potomac. On expiration of the term of service the original members were mustered out, the veterans and recruits remaining in the service until June 27, 1865 when the Regiment was mustered out by order of the War Department.
