From Newton, Michigan, Albert enlisted on October 7, 1862, at Newton, Michigan, for three years service at the age of 18. Wounded in action at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on July 3, 1863. He was promoted to Corporal on May 1, 1864, and then promoted to Sergeant on May 1, 1865. He mustered out at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, on December 15, 1865.The following narrative was was submitted by Deborah Cestnik

1 May 1864 Promoted to Corporal
28 May 1864 Wounded in side near Salem Church
19 Oct 1864 POW at Cedar Creek. Brought from Staunton to Richmond to Pemberton Prison
5 Feb 1865 Paroled at Coxe's Wharf
7 Feb 1865 Camp Parole, Annapolis, Maryland
20 Feb 1865 CCO
15 Dec 1865 Discharged
