From Marquette, Albert enlisted on August 8, 1861, as a Corporal for 3 years service at the age of 27. He took the muster oath on on September 7, 1861. He reported to Company G as a 2nd Lieutenant and was commissioned a 1st Lieutenant on November 13, 1862. Transferred to Company L on May 18, 1863, and then to Company F in February of 1864. He was commissioned Captain on October 25, 1864. He was mortally wounded at Winchester, Virginia, on September 19, 1864, dying of his wound on November 12, 1864.In his memory, the Grand Army of the Republic Post #300 at Marquette, Michigan, was named after him
