From Allegan, Charles enlisted, as Corporal, July 30, 1862, age 27. Promoted to Sergeant in Feb 1863. Wounded in action at Noonday Creek or Lattimer's Mills, Georgia, June 20, 1864. Discharged for disability due to crippling injury to left wrist at Detroit on September 26, 1864. He died in 1893 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Allegan, Michigan.
