a.k.a. "Dygert's Sharpshooters"
From Wayne County, Michigan, Davis enlisted on December 14, 1861, at Detroit for three years service at age 23. He reached the Regiment at Hall's Hill, Virginia, on February 14, 1862. Listed as "Missing in Action" at Gaines' Mill, Virginia, on June 27, 1862. He re-enlisted on December 24, 1863. Killed in Action at Bethesda Church, Virginia, on June 1, 1864. It is believed this photo was taken while he was in Michigan on leave granted when he re-enlisted. He is buried in Mallett Cemetery, Huron Township, Wayne County, Michigan.
