Charles was from Lapeer County, Michigan, and enlisted at age 19 on August 6, 1861, at Lapeer, Michigan. He was mustered into Federal Service on August 22, 1861. He died on July 25, 1863, from wounds received on July 3, 1863, at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He is buried at the National Cemetery at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, in the Michigan Plot, Grave F- #2.
