John enlisted on September 10, 1864, at Bellevue, Michigan, for 3 years of service at age 18. He took the muster oath on September 12, 1864. He attained the rank of Corporal before he was mustered out at Raleigh, North Carolina, on June 5, 1866. His postwar residence was Kalamazoo, Michigan.
