James G. Medler

Company F, 5th Michigan Cavalry

James enlisted on August 13, 1862, at White River for 3 years at age 29. He mustered August 28, 1862. He was promoted to Sergeant. He was listed missing in action at Trevillian Station Virginia on June 11, 1864, but returned to the regiment in July of that year. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on March 7, 1865. He mustered out at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, as a Quartermaster Sergeant.

His postwar address was Trufant, Michigan.
