From Kent County, Minor enlisted in the 3rd Michigan Infantry, March 2, 1862, and was discharged for disability on October 13, 1862. He re-enlisted in the 10th Cavalry as a Sergeant, September 7, 1863. Promoted to Quartermaster Sergeant, October 2, 1865, and then First Sergeant November 2, 1865. He was mustered out at Memphis, TN, on Nov 11, 1865.
