From Weesaw, Michigan, Martin enlisted at Weesaw for 3 years of service at age 18 on August 14, 1862. He was wounded in action twice before he was Mustered out at Salisbury, North Carolina, on June 24, 1865. His Post war residence was Chesaning, Michigan, where he is buried.
