From Kent County, Michigan, Charles enlisted on February 15, 1865 at Talmadge, Michigan, for one year of service at the age of 19. He was a substitute for Tindal Baxter who had been drafted from Talmadge. He was discharged at Detroit, Michigan, on June 9, 1865. His postwar residence was at Luther, Michigan.This is a postwar photo of he and his wife Harriett.
