Company K, 13th Michigan Infantry

Orville enlisted in Company K, 13th Michigan Infantry on 30 Aug 1864 at the age of 44. The 13th was organized at Kalamazoo under the direction of Col. Charles E. Stewart. Because he joined at a late date he saw limited action. The first being at Florence, Alabama, on the 8th of Oct 1864. After that there were sporadic engagements at Savannah, GA, on the 17th, 18th, 20th & 21st of December. He was taken ill and died on 15 Feb 1865 on board the troop transport Ben DeFord as the unit was being moved to the Catawba River, South Carolina. He was buried at sea.
