Enlisted in Company F of the 22nd Infantry on January 24, 1864 at Utica, Michigan, at the age of 33 and was the father of two young boys.After enlistment, he proceeded to Grand Rapids where measles were prevailing and he took the measles at camp. He nevertheless proceeded as far as Indianapolis, Indiana then took worse and had to be taken to the hospital. He died in City General Hospital in Indianapolis of this illness on February 28, 1864.
