Cpl. Orms of Tuscola was 31 when he enlisted on August 11, 1862 at Tuscola for 3 years. He mustered in on September 12, 1862. After mustering out at Salisbury, North Carolina, on June 28, 1865 he returned to Tuscola to farm.Sgt. Slafter of Tuscola, Michigan, was 40 when he enlisted in Company D on August 12, 1862, at Vassar, Michigan for 3 years of service. He mustered in on September 12, 1862, was wounded at the battle of Campbell Station, Tennessee, on November 16, 1863, and died in a military hospital in Knoxville on December 31, 1863. He is buried in the National Cemetery at Knoxville. He left a widow, formerly Fannie Rogers Tice, and 3 children, Lois Isabel, age 8, Persis Elizabeth, age 5, and Alvina Americana, age 1.
Sgt. Hewes also of Tuscola was 33 when he enlisted on August 11, 1862, at Tuscola. He was promoted to Commissary Sergeant on March 30, 1863, and then commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on December 25, 1863. He died of disease at home on March 4, 1864, and is buried in the Tuscola Cemetery.
