From St. Clair County, Theopholis enlisted on December 19, 1861, at Lakeport for 3 years service at the age of 26. He took the muster oath on February 6, 1862. He re-enlisted at the end of his term of service on Febraury 6, 1864, at Rossviille, Georgia. He mustered out of the service on July 19, 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky.
