From St Joseph County, Warren enlisted at age 23 at White Pigeon for 3 years service on August 24, 1861. He was wounded in action near Kenesaw Mountain, Ga, on June 18, 1864. He was mustered out of the 11th at Sturgis, Mi, on September 30, 1864.
