From Gratiot County, Henry enlisted at Alma on August 12, 1861 at the age of 18. He was wounded at the battle of Bull Run. He re-enlisted for the duration of the war at Blain's Cross roads on Dec. 29, 1863. The following year, he was killed in action at the battle of the Wilderness on May 6, 1864.
