From Coldwater, Michigan, Lucius entered service in Company C, 19th Michigan Infantry at its organization as a 2nd Lieutenant on July 22, 1862, at Coldwater for 3 years service at the age of 22. He was commissioned on July 28, 1862, and mustered into Federal service on September 5, 1862. Commissioned 1st Lieutenant on May 1, 1863. Transferred to Company D on March 4, 1864. Commissioned Quartermaster on May 25, 1864. He was Acting Assistant Brigade Quartermaster from November 1, 1864, until May of 1865. Commissioned Captain on in June of 1865. He mustered out at Washington, D.C. on June 10, 1865. His postwar address was Coldwater, Michigan.
